Here I am finally! Over Christmas on a Vietnamese island with great food, pool, beach and sun. Phu Quoc Island is fantastic for those hungry for sun, white soft beaches, luxury and delicious food! I arrive straight away, move into my bungalow and lie down on the sand on the beach. The sea rustles beautifully, a light wind blows around your nose and small fishing boats sail along in the distance. The water couldn’t be better: clean, warm and so shallow that you can just walk 100m in. Christmas in paradise!
Top 5 things to see and do in Phu Quoc
What do I do now on the island? Do I have to start something? Oh yes, there is a little something to see. Even if it is very touristy, two or three trips are worth it.
Sao Beach (Bãi Sao) is a paradise of fine white sand and turquoise water. Here you feel like you are in a postcard. Perfect for a relaxing day or romantic sunsets alone or as a couple. Beach towel, 2 candles, a bottle of wine and small snacks and the evening couldn’t be more relaxed.
The Phu Quoc Night Market is a feast for the senses: the smell of grilled seafood, colorful lights and local specialties take me to foodie heaven! Here you can feel the pulse of the island between the locals.
Ganh Dau Cape: A viewpoint with spectacular views of the Gulf of Thailand. Here you feel the peace and infinity of the sea. My eyes widen and let my thoughts flow. Really great for clearing your head.
What I advise against are things like the Vinpearl Safari. In this extensive safari park you can experience wild animals in barely noticeable natural surroundings. It all seems very staged, artificial and the animals don’t look particularly happy.
You also don’t have to see the Hon Thom Cable Car, the longest cable car in the world. She takes you across the sea to Hon Thom Island. The view is great, but the tourist design of the whole area is terrible. The start and end points are small towns modeled on Europe. You see houses with a great facade, but which are neither inhabited nor lively. Really bad in my eyes!

Phu Quoc is perfect for everyone! Couples love the romantic atmosphere and luxurious resorts. Families will find numerous child-friendly activities like building castles and tunnels in the sands. Backpackers enjoy the relaxed beaches and affordable accommodation. Even adventurers get their money’s worth with snorkeling, diving and jungle hikes
