Welcome to the Ninh Binh region – a hidden paradise that will delight you with its breathtaking nature and fascinating history. Here, in the heart of Vietnam, majestic limestone cliffs, tranquil river landscapes and cultural treasures merge into a unique experience. Whether you’re looking for a boat tour through hidden caves, a hike to breathtaking viewpoints or an insight into authentic Vietnamese rural life, the region has something for everyone. And you’ll have to do a bit of searching to find it. In this article, you will find out why this region is a must for your trip to Vietnam and how to make your stay unforgettable.

The way to Ninh Binh region

Arrival is easy by train, bus or by plane via Hanoi, followed by a 2-hour bus transfer.

By train

I traveled from Hoi An and as I had wanted to travel by night train in Vietnam for a long time, I decided to take the Lotus Train. It goes through Vietnamese towns, right between the houses. At night, when the towns and houses are quiet. Train Street in Hanoi or Bangkok can hide there! This is completely normal in Vietnam. I booked 1st class to get some sleep. The train jolted through the country, but it was still a very pleasant journey. You get food on board. It’s simple: rice, vegetables and chicken from large vats that are transported throughout the train. But delicious! There is also a huge breakfast, which is ready in a lunch bag when you board. Fresh coffee is served the next morning, including milk.

The Lotus Train travels almost the entire east coast of Vietnam to Hanoi. Fantastic – and unfortunately the 14-hour train journey went by far too quickly 🙂 I got off in the town of Ninh Binh to delve deeper into the region from there.

I bought my ticket from 12goasia.com or baolau.com. Both sites work wonderfully and offer reliable service!

By plane

The best way to get to Hanoi is with classic airlines such as airasia or vietair. From the airport, continue by bus. Here you can decide how you want to travel: Large coach or small 8-seater. There is no significant difference in terms of time, but the VIP van is more exclusive. Get off in the city of Ninh Binh or continue to the smaller towns around it. The best option is to take a Grab driver who will take you further on a moped.

By bus

Depending on where you are coming from, an overnight bus ride can also be super comfortable. The colorful buses also travel to the city of Ninh Binh. You can lie down on the buses, stretch your legs (up to about 1.70 m tall) and sleep.
