A walk in the city

Rückflug von Calama nach Santiago. Ich lasse die Wüste hinter mir und tauche ein in die Stadt und den Smog.

To be honest: The city is quite challenging! Very busy, very smoggy, loud and then suddenly also very calm. When you just walk around the hoods and inhale the feelings that come along I feel like being in New York. A Latin American style of Western New York. Suddenly a park appears around the corner where I climb a small hill with a beautiful view over Santiago. When the air would be clear you can see the Andes around with snow covered peaks.

Today, I let the intuition flow and go where my senses lead me. I visited 2 musuems to learn more about the city and culture. The culture before Spanish conquerers reached Latin America. I saw a lot of stone vases, sculptures, masks and clothing. Clothing more than 1000 years old from the ancient folks living across South America. I was in Bella Vista where they had an excursion about Santiago during 20th century which also was very interesting. I treid to translate Spanish explanations next to the exhibition elements as photos, paintings, newspapers and so on. A bit challenging 😉

So, is it worth visiting Santiago? It is! There are lots of small markets, it is warm here in December, food is ok if you like Chilean fast food and cheese 😉 Just a mix of New York and Spain!
Now, in some minutes I will start my next small adventure and go to Patagonia Puerto Natales where I booked a hotel serviced by Erkka from Finland and David de Chile. I am looking forward to meet those guys! Stay tuned… 🙂
