First day in Buenos Aires

Arrive relaxed and spend the first day

The first day in Buenos Aires… I get off the plane a bit exhausted after 18 hours of traveling. The sun is shining, it’s a pleasant 24 degrees outside, slightly cloudy. Buenos Aires welcomes me with open arms and a big smile.

ita Airways – Better another airline

I get off the plane with a full stomach from breakfast. Italian breakfast from ita Airways. What does that mean? Coffee, croissant and 3 sweets and tarts wrapped in plastic. The Italians… Pragmatic and so dolce!

Seat comfort

The seats are really uncomfortable compared to other airlines such as China Airlines. Hard, not particularly well separated from each other, even the viewing areas in the front rows are not screened off. Why is this – shall we say – suboptimal? Because sleeping without a sleep mask is difficult, at least for me, when the movie is flickering in front of me.

Give-aways

There were no giveaways, which in itself is not so bad, because who needs the 10th cosmetic bag? But a comfortable sleeping mask would have been great. I made do with my sweater, the sleeves of which I skillfully knotted around my eyes and over my head.

Culinary experience during the flight

The food was disappointing for an Italian airline. I had pasta in a tomato sauce. I also had a piece of cake and a small focaccia with rosemary and a salad. You already know the breakfast.

Service quality

The service was great! Always a smile on their faces and multilingual, alternating between Spanish, Italian and English.

And how is it now, the first day in Buenos Aires?

What I can recommend to you is definitely not to run off immediately after arriving at the hotel or AirBnB and look at everything you can find in the travel guide or travel blogs. Instead, I put my luggage in the AirBnB, freshened up and went to the waterfront in the San Telmo district. On my first day in Buenos Aires, I was just people-watching and soaking up the vibe of the city in search of a nice café with the famous tostados. It was a Sunday, it was January and everything felt wonderfully relaxed and surprisingly boring. Good for me for the first day.
The evening was similarly relaxed. After a short afternoon nap, I wander back to the water, choose a parrilla and eat my first Argentinian steak with a side dish. Great meat! But if it continues like this for the rest of the 5 weeks… Fortunately, there are also ensaladas, which will accompany me often over the next few weeks.
